Background
The Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024 (DMCC Act) received Royal Assent on 24 May 2024. Consumer protection provisions — including rules on fake reviews, drip pricing, subscription traps, and misleading savings claims — are being brought into force in phases from 2025 onwards. This document records SavvyPicks' assessment of its obligations and its current compliance status.
Fake Reviews
DMCC requirement: It is an unfair commercial practice to commission, publish, or facilitate fake consumer reviews, or to suppress genuine negative reviews.
SavvyPicks position: We do not publish consumer reviews. Product listing pages display Amazon star ratings sourced from the Jungle Scout dataset as a data signal only — we do not present these as our own editorial opinion or as verified SavvyPicks reviews. We do not solicit, commission, or suppress any reviews.
Drip Pricing
DMCC requirement: Traders must not reveal mandatory charges incrementally during a purchase journey. The total price (or a clear means of calculating it) must be disclosed upfront.
SavvyPicks position: SavvyPicks does not sell products directly and has no purchase journey or checkout process. We are a discovery and affiliate referral service. We do not display prices (we lack real-time pricing access at this stage). All transactions take place on Amazon UK, where Amazon bears responsibility for pricing presentation.
Subscription Contracts
DMCC requirement: Businesses offering subscription contracts must provide clear pre-contract information, reminders before renewal, and easy cancellation mechanisms.
SavvyPicks position: SavvyPicks does not offer any paid subscription or recurring billing. Our newsletter is a free opt-in service. Unsubscribing is available at any time via a link in every email or by contacting us directly.
Savings Claims and Fake Deals
DMCC requirement: Presenting a product as discounted when the "was" price is misleading is an unfair commercial practice. Savings claims must be based on genuine prior prices.
SavvyPicks position: We do not display prices, discounts, "was/now" comparisons, or percentage savings on any product. Products are surfaced by Amazon bestseller rank only. No savings claims are made anywhere on the site. When we obtain real-time pricing access (Amazon PA-API), we will implement 30-day prior price tracking before displaying any discount percentage, in line with the Omnibus Directive as retained in UK law.
Ranking Transparency
DMCC / Consumer Rights Act requirement: Online marketplaces and comparison services must disclose the main parameters used to determine ranking, and whether paid placement affects ranking.
SavvyPicks position: The ranking methodology is disclosed on our Editorial Standards page and the Affiliate Disclosure page. Products are ordered by Amazon UK bestseller rank (BSR) sourced from the Jungle Scout dataset. No brand or retailer can pay for a higher position. Paid placement is explicitly prohibited under our editorial policy.
Affiliate Link Disclosure
ASA / CAP Code and DMCC requirement: Commercial intent must be clearly disclosed. Affiliate links that may result in payment to the publisher must be identified.
SavvyPicks position: A persistent affiliate disclosure banner appears on every page. The full disclosure is available at /affiliate-disclosure. Every product CTA button is labelled "View Price on Amazon" — the commercial nature of the link is stated in plain language. Our Amazon Associate tag (savvypicks043-21) is embedded in every outbound Amazon link.
Actions Required Before Enabling Prices
When we obtain Amazon PA-API access and begin displaying prices, the following must be in place before launch:
- →Track and store 30-day price history before displaying any 'was/now' or percentage savings claim.
- →Ensure the reference price used in savings calculations is a genuine prior selling price, not a list price or RRP.
- →Display the date from which the reference price applies ('lowest price in 30 days' format, per the Omnibus Directive).
- →Update the Affiliate Disclosure and Privacy Policy pages to reflect any new pricing data sources.
- →Review the Terms of Service to ensure price accuracy disclaimers are appropriate.
This document reflects SavvyPicks' self-assessment as of 3 May 2026. It is not legal advice. We will update this page as DMCC provisions come into force and as our service evolves.
